Somebody came and asked a saint, “What do you think about this particular situation?” The saint said, “Where is the time to think about anything? I have no time to think.” This statement is difficult to understand: “I have no time to think.” But how can you think when you are in the present, when you are aware, when you are in the now totally? Thinking is like a chewing gum. It doesn’t produce anything. You can think only those things which you know. And once you know, what is the need to think about it? And you can’t think something which you don’t know. How can you? It is not possible. Ultimately, thinking is useless!!!

I partly agree with this. I think thinking and imagination are the two powerful tools which help any person to go beyond their capacity. For example just 150 years back, no one would have thought of flying. But Wright Brothers thought that we can fly. They worked on that by thinking and imagination and the result we all know. Similarly we can came across various examples that proves thinking is absolutely important. It not only widen the your ability to tackle any problem but also help you in choosing best option available for tackling any situation.

Gayathri, there is a subtle difference between being aware of your thoughts and trying to think. When there is a problem, you intend to solve it, calm yourself and become aware of your thoughts… this way, the solution will present to you by itself. But if you try to think out a solution, you will only get lost. I think this is what is meant here when he says ‘thinking is useless’. Otherwise I agree with you in that imagination and power of thought helps in the evolution of human beings.
Very profound!!!
When one enters the realm of true consciousness, s/he experiences the dichotomy of singularity and plurality…you are in the transcendental state of ‘being’.
Thank you for sharing these words of wisdom my friend.

Thinking belongs to the mind and 99% of our ideas are repeated.
Very rarely we think some thing new.
By being aware of the thinking means we should become a witness to thinking, that is being aware of thoughts and see them coming and going (with out judging, interfering or interpreting them).
this is called passive awareness of thoughts
